The Lac du Bonnet Community Better Challenge
What is the Community Better Challenge?
The Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet is participating in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge and encourages all residents in the Lac du Bonnet region to participate!
The Challenge is a national physical activity initiative that encourages Canadians to get active in search of Canada's Most Active Community. It is open to everyone and all minutes tracked on the app and website from June 1 – 30 count toward a community’s total score. At the conclusion of the challenge, one community will earn the top prize of $100,000 and title of being Canada’s most active.
Taking part is simple! All you need to do is track your “Movement Minutes” in a day, and then log them on the free ParticipACTION app or on their website. When you register, your Postal Code (ROE 1A0) will automatically put you in the Lac du Bonnet region, which means all of your Movement Minutes will be added to our total!
What Type of Activity Counts?
All type of movement and physical activity counts. Track your recess, virtual group exercise classes, practices, events or even lunchtime walks starting June 1. Every minute tracked goes toward your community’s score. Examples include yardwork, family bike ride, morning walk, taking a yoga class, gardening - It all counts towards our total! The app/website will allow you to track any amount of movement that is over 10 minutes in length.
Plus, if you have a smart watch or FitBit it’s even easier, you can connect them to the ParticipACTION app and have them automatically log your movement minutes!
Intensity can range - you do not need to be moving vigorously to track your movement! Here's is a breakdown of intensity - all of which can be used as part of your movement minutes.
|LIGHT. Your body is moving, but you’re not sweating or breathing harder. You should have no problem singing or holding a conversation.||MODERATE. Causes you to sweat a little and to breathe harder. You should still be able to talk, but not sing along to your favorite song.||VIGOROUS. Causes you to sweat and be out of breath. You shouldn’t be able to say more than a few words without pausing for a breath.|
